The Major Solar Projects List is a database of all ground-mounted solar projects, 1 MW and above, that are either operating, under construction or under development. The list is for informational purposes only, reflecting projects and completed milestones in the public domain.

How many solar projects are there?

There are more than 7,950 major solar projects currently in the database, representing over 340 GWdc of capacity. There are over 1,200 major energy storage projects currently in the database, representing more than 89,000 MWh of capacity. The list shows that there are more than 180 GWdc of major solar projects currently operating.

How is the list of solar projects gathered?

The information in the list was gathered from public announcements of solar projects in the form of company press releases, news releases, and, in some cases, conversations with individual developers. It is not a comprehensive list of all utility-scale projects under development.

How much does a solar project cost?

The project site covers about 10,000 acres of land, mainly pasture and cropland. The project is expected to start construction in 2024 and enter commercial operation in the first quarter of 2025.
